Hungary’s construction production increased by 14% in August compared with July in Eurostat’s first estimate published on 20 October. For Hungarian property developers and contractors, this provides a new comparison for the whole sector’s performance, rather than residential construction alone.
The monthly change is a calendar- and seasonally-adjusted volume measure. Hungary’s calendar-adjusted increase compared with August of the previous year was 22%. These measures use different time comparisons and cannot be added together.
Across the European Union’s construction sector, the monthly increase was 2.0% and the annual rise 2.6%. These are changes in production, not revenues measured in euros or forints. This is our processing and translation of Eurostat data.
Our earlier housing-permit report discusses dwelling counts, while our rent-index report covers advertised prices. Assessing an investment separately requires local demand, progress on site and financing; national production growth cannot replace a project budget. The current estimate may be revised. The next EU release is scheduled for 19 November, when September performance and possible revisions to earlier figures can provide new information.
