Permits issued for 828 homes in Hungary in August

The HCSO’s updated monthly table shows permits or simple notifications for 828 planned homes in August, 20.2% fewer than in July.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office’s monthly building-permit table, updated on 5 October, shows permits or simple notifications for 828 planned homes in August 2026. The July figure was 1,038, so the monthly decline was 210 homes, or 20.2%. August sits toward the lower end of the spring-summer range: March recorded 1,328 and June 980 permits.

A monthly permit is neither a completed home nor a delivery forecast. Considerable time may pass between permission, construction and completion, while projects can be changed or cancelled. Even so, the series is an early supply signal for Hungarian buyers, developers and construction companies because it shows how many homes may later move into implementation.

The HCSO table lists 654 residential buildings and 92,582 square metres of residential floor area in August. For non-residential buildings, it records 141 permits and 136,783 square metres. The monthly reading should be assessed with quarterly and regional breakdowns. Our related coverage examines the September housing-price slowdown and the MNB’s 16.5% overvaluation estimate. The HCSO schedules third-quarter permit data for 4 November.
