The European Commission disbursed €1.24 billion on 7 October from the defence component of the Ukraine Support Loan. The money can fund drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles made by Ukrainian entities. The disbursement matters to Hungary because it is a joint EU financial commitment tied to industrial capacity and security in the region.
The European External Action Service release says the indicative structure of the 2026–2027 loan is €60 billion for defence and €30 billion for budgetary assistance. The Commission plans to disburse €28.3 billion in 2026 to support Ukraine's defence-industrial capacity.
This is an actual disbursement, not a new loan pledge; however, the release does not identify manufacturers, contracts or delivery deadlines. Without named beneficiaries and contractual terms, cost efficiency and delivery risk cannot currently be assessed on a comparable basis. That warrants caution.
