The European Commission disbursed €157 million to Moldova after confirming the completion of 18 reforms in the latest assessment period. According to the 5 October EU–Moldova Association Council statement, total performance-based financing paid under the Reform and Growth Facility has therefore risen to about €661 million. The Council of the EU release specifically cites rule-of-law, judicial and anti-corruption reforms.
For Hungary, the stake extends beyond the EU budget to regional integration. Moldova’s gradual entry into the single market, participation in SEPA and connection to the Common Transit Convention can reduce friction in cross-border payments and trade. The statement also notes that Moldova has been part of the EU roaming area since January. The payment is not an automatic accession decision but financing tied to verified performance.
