Stocks Rose After Weak U.S. Jobs Data

The BUX rose 0.09%, the STOXX Europe 600 0.70% and the S&P 500 0.73% on October 2 as weak U.S. jobs data reduced expectations of a near-term rate increase.

In regular trading on October 2, the BUX closed at 140050.08 points, up 0.09%. The Economx BSE summary put OTP at 40250 HUF, up 0.68%; MOL at 4852 HUF, up 0.46%; Richter at 12230 HUF, down 1.37%; and Magyar Telekom at 2520 HUF, down 1.56%.

| Index | Close | Daily change | |---|---:|---:| | STOXX Europe 600 | 630.95 points | +0.70% | | DAX | 25222.06 points | +1.12% | | CAC 40 | 7897.19 points | +0.79% | | FTSE 100 | 10461.95 points | +0.32% | | S&P 500 | 7722.72 points | +0.73% | | Nasdaq Composite | 27190.86 points | +1.19% | | Dow Jones | 51176.96 points | +0.49% |

U.S. employment increased by 29000 in September and unemployment was 4.2%. Equities interpreted the report as reducing near-term rate-hike risk, but euro-area inflation accelerated to 3.8%, so U.S. and European rate paths may diverge. The previous close review and our Hungarian bond-market scenario provide comparison. The next major releases are the U.S. CPI on October 14 and final euro-area HICP on October 16.
