ONS estimates released on September 11 show UK real GDP grew by 0.4% in July 2026 compared with June. Output in the three months ending in July was also 0.4% above the three months ending in April. Identical figures therefore describe different time windows.
Monthly data reveal new movements faster but can be more sensitive to one-off fluctuations. A three-month comparison combines more observations, at the cost of potentially reflecting turning points later. Neither should be quoted as annual growth.
For exporters, the customer’s sector matters. A Hungarian services company and an industrial component supplier can face different British demand. Economy-wide expansion supplies context without replacing a buyer’s investment or procurement plans. Currency and contractual pricing also affect the outcome of sterling-denominated business.
Detailed sector figures and later revisions matter for the next assessment. Initial GDP estimates can change as information improves. The present picture shows growth; it does not establish an unchanged continuation or equal demand gains for every business.
