Investment supported Hungary's GDP in the second quarter

Hungary's GDP grew 1.7% year on year and 0.6% quarter on quarter, the KSH monitor says, with services and investment providing the main support.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office GDP monitor updated on 8 October says Hungary's economy expanded 1.7% year on year and 0.6% quarter on quarter in the second quarter of 2026. Services made the main contribution on the production side, while gross fixed-capital formation led on the expenditure side.

For Hungarian companies and households, the composition matters as much as the headline: investment may signal later productive capacity, while services depend more directly on domestic demand. The same KSH monitor puts Hungary's growth in 2025 at 0.6% and the EU average at 1.5%. That comparison covers a different period and should not be read as a direct comparison with the latest quarter.

Related coverage includes our report on the IMF's Hungarian growth and deficit path and August industrial output. KSH schedules the next new GDP estimate for 30 October; until then, investment, industry and services data will show whether the second-quarter improvement is durable.
