Ahead of the September 29 US open, CarMax’s release is available: diluted earnings per share for the quarter ended August 31 reached 1.16 US dollars, compared with 0.64 US dollars a year earlier. The used-car retailer plans to resume modest share repurchases in the next fiscal quarter.
Hungarian investors’ US dollar exposures depend on exchange rates as well as share prices. USD/HUF calculated from the ECB’s September 28 reference data is 322.64 forints per US dollar; this is a daily reference, not a live quote. Our BSE morning edition covers the Hungarian backdrop.
Economic releases follow the open
The NYSE’s regular opening is at 09:30 in New York. The BLS calendar schedules the August Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, for 10:00, which is 16:00 in Budapest. The Conference Board has scheduled its consumer confidence report for the same time.
Labour demand matters for the interest-rate outlook: the Federal Reserve raised rates on September 16. The direction of the subsequent stock and US dollar response remains uncertain; we discussed broader financing risks in our article on Lagarde’s warning.
Current licensed index-futures and premarket equity data, and a verified analyst consensus, are unavailable to us, so we do not quantify an opening direction or price moves. The next substantive reference points will be the September 29 releases from the BLS and the Conference Board.
