Morning five: US industry, central banks, AI and energy

The reading order for 17 October runs from fresh industrial data to oversight of research AI. We connect the EU summit’s new development and savings-cost background with questions facing Hungarian readers.

  1. US industrial production picked up: the Federal Reserve reported September growth of 0.7 percent monthly and 2.2 percent annually. August’s figure was revised upward. Hungarian suppliers should place their own product market and orders alongside the national measure.

  2. Hungarian and Kazakh central banks agreed to strengthen long-term institutional cooperation, according to the MNB’s Bangkok report. The short statement does not set out a detailed work programme. We distinguish the announced relationship from an as-yet unverified customer benefit or new rate decision.

  3. The EU’s research-AI guidance also addresses agents and gives more detail on peer review and proposal assessment. These are recommendations, not a new research-funding regulation. Hungarian research organisations should clarify oversight and accountability as well as assess a tool’s capabilities.

  4. Our EU summit article has received a substantive update: the full conclusions also focus on the winter resilience of Ukraine’s energy system. The document identifies the role of regional cooperation and cross-border electricity interconnections. A financial effect on Hungarian businesses can only be calculated from specific implementation conditions.

  5. Yesterday’s analysis separates the real return on savings into nominal performance, costs and purchasing power. An original conditional calculation complements the comparison of national inflation rates. As weekend background reading, the method is useful; it is not a personalised product selection or a promise of a certain return.
