The Council of the EU agenda updated on 8 October says ministers at the 13 October General Affairs Council will receive an update on the rule-of-law situation in Hungary. This forms part of the Article 7 procedure triggered in 2018 by the European Parliament's reasoned proposal. The agenda does not announce a new sanctions decision or vote.
For Hungarian public affairs, the significance is that the procedure remains an active Council file. The Council timeline says it is still ongoing after several stocktakes and nine hearings. The European Parliament's 2018 proposal listed judicial independence, corruption, media freedom and minority rights among its concerns.
