Brussels reviews how EU rules affect housing supply

The European Commission will hold an expert dialogue on 14 October about EU and national regulatory barriers that restrict housing supply.

The European Commission implementation dialogue on 14 October will review rules that may restrict housing construction with Energy and Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen. The meeting is part of preparations for the Housing Simplification Package and aims to identify practical effects of EU legislation and national gold-plating.

The agenda ranges from procurement, finance and taxation to land use, energy efficiency, construction products, labour and skills. The invitation-only meeting is an expert forum, not a legislative decision or immediate deregulation. For Hungarian developers, municipalities and buyers, the key issue will be which permitting, financing or technical burdens a later package changes and which matters remain national responsibilities.

The next verifiable step is the Commission's summary of the dialogue and a concrete package proposal. Hungarian market context is available in the latest MNB house-price index, KSH first-quarter housing prices, and our report on housing construction permits.
