Windows links local and cloud AI agents

Microsoft is turning Windows into a shared platform for local and cloud artificial intelligence; MXC security containers are now generally available.

Microsoft unveiled its “hybrid intelligence” plan on 7 October: Windows can run AI agents locally or in the cloud depending on the task and corporate rules. For Hungarian companies, the key questions are where data is processed and how operations are governed, because local execution may reduce the volume of sensitive data sent to the cloud while adding hardware and oversight requirements. The rollout timetable and replacement of the device fleet may create a separate cost risk.

The Microsoft announcement says Microsoft Execution Containers, or MXC, are now generally available. The company says the containers isolate agent actions, make it possible to identify which agent performed an operation, and provide central governance. Copilot is expected to use local context and local models, while the Surface Laptop Ultra is available for preorder.

These are vendor claims, so independent tests still need to verify performance, cost and privacy effects. Related reading includes our report on Microsoft's biological AI system and Google's 890-megawatt energy agreement. The next checks are the MXC documentation and European availability.
