Local development boards seek applicants by October 7

The board-membership call for the Saint Stephen Rural Development Programme was published on 2026-09-23. The official call sets the deadline at the end of 2026-10-07 and plans to conclude selection on October 26. It concerns preparing regional strategies, rather than directly financing individual project applications.

The ministry's September 26 announcement describes ten pilot microregions. Each board comprises fifteen people: ten selected applicants, four invited specialists and a coordinator.

The document repository separately provides the settlement list, eligibility guidance and interest declarations. A local connection alone is insufficient: the precise participation and conflict-of-interest conditions need to be checked against the call.

The public-interest question. In our editorial assessment, meaningful local participation depends on traceable selection, reasons for evaluation and the eventual project list. An appealing project is not necessarily a service that best meets regional needs.

The next milestones are board selection and public consideration of development proposals. Outcomes will depend on the relationship between completed projects and local needs; opening a membership competition does not establish that success. Future maintenance needs to be considered alongside initial construction costs.
