EU industrial producer prices rose 2.6% in September from August, according to Eurostat's release of 5 November. Hungary's domestic industrial selling-price index increased 1.5% over the month. This gives Hungarian purchasing managers a fresh benchmark against which to compare their own suppliers' quotations.
The EU's annual increase was 10.9% in September, while monthly prices excluding energy rose 0.2%. The gap between the two monthly EU measures highlights how different sectoral developments can sit behind aggregate cost pressure.
Hungary's monthly change was below the EU average, although both geographical areas recorded increases. This is a difference between price indices: assessing the increase in a particular Hungarian company's contract requires its product mix and pricing terms. The indicator measures producers' selling prices, so separate data are needed for consumer checkout prices. The geographical coverage and base period of an index named in a contract therefore merit separate identification before invoicing.
The Hungarian manufacturing survey provides separate demand context, while the Irish inflation flash estimate covers the consumer side. These figures are first estimates; Eurostat's next producer-price release is scheduled for 3 December. Alongside the new month, any revisions will then merit comparison.
