EU hydrogen strategy consultation runs until 23 November

The Commission is preparing a new strategy; Hungarian industrial participants can submit answers in Hungarian.

The European Commission opened a consultation on its forthcoming hydrogen strategy on 26 October, with a deadline of 23 November. For Hungarian technology suppliers and industrial users, this is an opportunity to describe specific obstacles encountered ahead of investment.

The announcement concerns preparation of a document, so participation does not yet establish company subsidies or new obligations. The detailed consultation page says the questionnaire is available in English, but responses may be submitted in any official EU language. It closes at 23:59 Central European Time on 23 November.

Our industrial assessment is that a useful contribution treats energy supply, technology and potential customers separately. For a planned facility, equipment performance presents a different uncertainty from sustained demand for its output. Specific company experience can therefore convey more than a general request for support.

Before submission, it is also useful to standardise the periods and units attached to claims so different obstacles can be compared. This is our methodological suggestion, not an additional condition imposed by the Commission.

Our articles on the EU debate over network charges and investment financing address related issues. The consultation’s conclusion and publication of the actual strategy text are the next developments to watch.

Responses should also separate measured results from estimates, so projected performance is not confused with actual experience.
