ECB Vice-President Boris Vujčić argued for deeper European market integration in Dublin on November 2. For Hungarian exporters, administrative and financing costs incurred in other countries can directly affect whether an order is profitable.
The ECB speech highlights obstacles created by differing national rules and fragmented financial markets. This is a policy argument: the speech does not bring a new business rule into force.
In our illustrative business example, a supplier offers the same product in two foreign markets, but faces different documentation and payment terms. Comparing revenue is insufficient: translation, certificates, financing and administrative work need separate cost entries. This is a hypothetical example; we do not claim savings achieved by a particular Hungarian company.
Weakening EU economic sentiment provides a signal about demand expectations, while tighter corporate lending concerns the financing environment. These should be considered separately from integration's longer-term possibilities.
Progress can next be assessed against specific legislative texts and implementation dates affecting the single market. Meanwhile, a business can map its own cross-border costs: which recur with every shipment, which are one-off, and which could actually be reduced by a more uniform procedure.
