Forbes reports completion of Barilla’s Goodles purchase

The magazine reports a $750 million cash price; the earlier company announcement promised continued standalone brand operations.

Barilla’s purchase of Goodles has closed for $750 million in cash, according to Forbes’s report published on 24 October. For Hungarian shoppers and food distributors, subsequent changes in product ranges, labels and distribution conditions may be the relevant aspects of a brand’s ownership change.

We present Forbes’s information about the price as a media report. Goodles’s company announcement of 2 September described an agreement and envisaged continued standalone operations for the American macaroni-and-cheese brand. The new element is the report of completion.

For a consumer comparison, it is useful to record package size and ingredients needed for preparation alongside the owner’s name. Two shelf prices may cover different numbers of servings; calculating spending per portion also requires the cost of added ingredients. These are our own comparison suggestions, with no claim about specific Hungarian prices or availability.

Our reports on the Csaba producer market and Eger wine walk described local gastronomic offerings; this time the focus is an international packaged-food brand. The next substantive development could be a company announcement about products or distribution. We infer no Hungarian retail launch, recipe change or health benefit from the acquisition.
