Savings union and energy on the Eurogroup agenda

Euro-area finance ministers are reviewing progress on capital-markets union, the efficiency of public finances and the economic impact of energy markets on 8 October.

The official Eurogroup agenda says euro-area finance ministers meeting in Luxembourg on 8 October will review progress on the savings and investments union, including capital-markets union. Hungary is not in the euro area, but Hungarian savers still have a stake: EU rules for investment accounts, pension products and cross-border markets can affect product access, fees and competition.

Ministers will also discuss the effectiveness of public finances and the euro-area impact of energy markets. This is a debate and annual stocktake, not an adopted measure. The Commission programme lists financial literacy, supplementary pensions and integrated market supervision among its main tracks. Detailed rules, taxation and consumer protection still require separate legislation.
