Budapest gains a joint development forum; funding remains a separate question

Parliament adopted the proposal giving the Metropolitan Public Development Council a statutory basis on 2026-09-22, as confirmed by the city's September 24 briefing. The government's September 27 account therefore explains an earlier parliamentary decision.

According to the government, the council will have five government and five city delegates, chaired by the prime minister with the mayor as co-chair. Decisions require unanimity; the body can also decide on priority designation for projects.

The city briefing identifies a financial constraint: covering mandatory services takes precedence, while several voluntary tasks can receive only conditional decisions. This is distinct from establishing the development forum.
